May

As this is my first month as Mayor of Chickerell I am looking forward to attending many events in Chickerell and Dorset.

I am also leading on an event which is happening in Chickerell in July. We are very proud to be welcoming the Olympic Torch through the town and as well as arranging the decorations and celebrations for the route we are also arranging a community event for Saturday, 14th July 2012.

Please see the letter below for more details.

To All residents

As the new Mayor of Chickerell this Olympic year, I am very excited at the prospect of Chickerell hosting the arrival of the Olympic Torch into Weymouth.

It will travel from Portesham along the Chickerell Road, then to Portland via Lanehouse Rocks Road. This will take place from around 5pm on Thursday 12th July in the form of a large convoy of vehicles, with the main sponsors passing out sample free bees etc. along with the chosen ‘runners’ carrying the torch and a BBC camera capturing the progress on a live feed to TV.

The council will be decorating the route with ribbons and flowers in the sailing colours and the Town Council would encourage families to line the route to support our athletes on this momentous occasion. Please come along with a flag to wave!

Residents along the route, the Council would like you to decorate your gardens with the Olympic colours of blue and pink. The Council will have a supply of blue and pick ribbons, which can be used to decorate fencing etc. Unfortunately there is a cost of £6 per roll which is 50’ long, and can be shared amongst neighbours, alternatively donations towards the cost would be greatly appreciated!

A competition for the best Olympic themed garden will be judged on Wednesday the 11th, ring or email me to enter.

The Lynch Lane Garden Centre will have a good supply of suitable plants in these colours contact Ian on 01305 766336 to order what suits your needs.

On Saturday 14th from 1pm we are going to hold a community BBQ on one of the Cobham Drive greens. There will be live music, some local specialist stalls, a hot dog stand, and also some children’s games on the other main green. The fire service and police will be bringing vehicles, if available, to promote community safety.

I am hoping that the residents of Cobham Drive will be able to supply the BBQ’s for this event, with sponsorship towards the cost of the charcoal etc. Please bring your own food, and any portable chairs! I am hoping that everyone will pitch in with the BBQ’ing, and make some new friends!

Please be aware that parking will be limited. If you are able to car share with a neighbour, that would be appreciated. Entrance to Cobham drive will be one way, in a clockwise direction from midday, to enable parking on just the left hand side of the road, and make it safer for children.

We will be having two local bands, V6 and Mojo with Bob Kirkpatrick, a folk singer to entertain us – they will be playing from our garden facing the green from around 1pm till early evening.

If anyone would like to help to make this day a success, we do need your help, so please pop round, give me a ring, 770863 or mobile 07957 864 195, or email me on robbiedunster@yahoo.co.uk.

I look forward to seeing you before hand with your ideas and/or suggestions, as well as on the day itself!

Mayor of Chickerell
