A message from the Mayor July/August

It was an absolute delight to attend the Cross Stitch exhibition in the Methodist Hall in July and meet some of the group’s members; the ladies of Chickerell are very enthusiastic and talented.

Later that day I opened the Magna Fun day on Willowbed field, this was the first time Magna had come to Chickerell and I was pleased to welcome them, and I hope it is the first of many times.  They organised a wonderful day with lots of stalls, line dancing, bouncy castle and a hog roast. I had the vegetarian “hog”, very enjoyable!

I attended the annual jumble sale in aid of animals, this event was very well attended and the Willowbed Hall was full of busy bargain hunters.  I look forward to reading the the Contact magazine that you raised a lot of money for your animal charities.

I popped in to the story and craft session in the library.  It was well attended with everyone busy colouring a spaceman. I donated my effort to the Library and hope to see it displayed shortly. Good to see more use made of the library which is a very important resource for Chickerell

I had the honour and pleasure of  attending the re-naming of The Queen Charlotte Care Home (formerly Montevideo Care Home).  After planting a lovely tree I met staff and residents, had a cream tea and spent a lovely day in their beautiful garden with music. They do have a Mulburry tree in the gardens and if you would like to pick some fruit just contact the Manager, Mr Mark Beech.

I had an amazing day celebrating 150 years of Army Cadets at Chickerell Camp. We had wonderful weather and met all the Mayors and dignitaries from around Dorset and beyond.  Chickerell looked beautiful, especially the view from the ranges with the Fleet bathed in sunshine.

It was with great delight I gave out trophies at our Flower and Craft show in the Willowbed Hall. The entries were interesting and the flower arrangements very artistic, the childrens entries were very good and I presented certificates to the children.

The Echo is running a feature on the Victory Hall and I attended with a cheque for £500 from the Town Council for their future improvements.

We attended a night at the Opera, with the Band of the Royal Signals in Blandford and Weymouths Civic Service held on Portland.

Its been another month full of volunteers and fundraisers and Chickerell is first rate in this respect. Well done.

Look out for me and please say hello if you spot me!
