Mayor of Chickerell, Cllr Robbie Dunster with Stuart Houghton of Abacus Renewable Energy

Solar Panels arrive at Willowbed Hall
Chickerell Town Council has installed 16 solar panels on the roof of their offices in Putton Lane.

The whole system was installed by Abacus Renewable Energy at a cost of £6,333 and should generate approximately 3,500 kilowatts of electricity a year.

It is estimated that this will reduce the town council’s electricity bill for Willowbed Hall and office by over £800 in the first 12 months.  This is an average return on investment of 13% and a pay back time of just over 7 years.

The Mayor of Chickerell, Councillor Robbie Dunster said “I feel it is our duty as a responsible council, especially in this economic climate, to take every opportunity to contribute in any way we can to reduce costs, emissions, waste and in this case, contribute towards the country’s target for producing renewable energy. This was a capital expenditure which in years to come will be an ongoing benefit to the local community and users of our Willowbed Hall. The Council is keen to promote the use of the Hall and a programme of improvements to the building and facilities offered, will enable us to attract a wider scope of activities for daytime users for such things as conferences, training etc’. With a good size car park and an excellent kitchen and of course the choice of good hostelries locally, Chickerell is the place to come to!”
